Daniel spent six years at Apple as a software engineer on drivers, frameworks and sensing technology for macOS and iOS, where he was Tavana's mentor for more than four years. In 2022 he left to found Base16, building computer vision, machine learning and AI products. Before Apple he built embedded and sensor software at Panasonic Avionics, and he did his graduate research at UCLA.
The AI platform built for construction,
grounded in your company's data
We bring your project documents into one place: drawings, specs, RFIs, submittals and addenda. Vest answers from all of them and shows you the exact page. Use it in the trailer or in the field.
Roughly a third of what a job loses starts in the drawings and specs.
Every job loses money to rework, change orders, delay and RFIs. In the studies below, about a third of the rework and change orders trace back to an error or an omission in the documents, or to an answer that came too late.

Industry findings from published studies, not measurements from a Vest project. Vest reads every drawing, spec, RFI and submittal once, and every answer opens the page it came from.
Ask, check the source, find, and count.
Vest answers questions from your documents. It also lets you check a source, find every place a tag or note appears, count symbols on a sheet, and ask about a part of a drawing.
Every answer shows its source
Every claim carries a numbered source. Hover it to preview the page, or click to open the page with the exact spot highlighted.
Finds every place it’s printed
Ask where a tag or note shows up, then step through each place on the sheets. Callouts take you straight to the detail they point to.
Counts symbols on a sheet
Draw a box around one symbol and Vest finds the rest on the sheet. You check the dots, press Done, and the count is saved to the project.
Ask about a picture
Draw a box around part of a drawing, or attach a photo, and ask what it is. Vest reads it against the schedules and notes in your set.
Every file is read once, before anyone asks.
Vest reads every page when a file arrives, so a question can draw on all the files in a project.
Upload your files, or have us connect a folder your team already uses.
Drawings, specs, RFIs, submittals and addenda. Vest reads each file page by page and links the references between them.
Callouts open the details they point to, and a newer revision of a file takes over from the older one.
Each project keeps its own files and its own chats. Switch between them from the sidebar.
Ask in words, or draw a box on a sheet and ask about what is in it. From the office or from the field.
A short lookup comes back in seconds. A question that reads across many files takes longer. Either way, the answer shows the exact page.
A general chatbot reads text well and drawings poorly, and most of what a project needs to know is on the sheets. It also starts from zero on every question. Vest reads the drawings as drawings, processes every page before anyone asks, and cites the page each answer came from.
We gather and organize your files.
Vest is only as good as the files behind it, and in construction those files are spread across drives, inboxes, the trailer, paper, and several apps. Most teams don't have time to pull them together, so we do it for you.
We come to you, find every place your files live, and put them in order. Then we set up your team so new files keep coming in. You do not need a tech person on staff.
We sync the folders you choose, and new files come in as your team saves them. Your original files stay where they are, and you keep working where you do today.
Your documents stay private to your company.
Your documents include bid numbers, contracts, and means and methods, some of the most sensitive things your company has. Vest keeps each company's data in its own database, shows people only the projects they are added to, and never uses your documents to train a model.
Will it make things up?
Any AI can, which is why every answer opens the exact page it came from, highlighted, so you can check it in seconds. When the documents cannot support an answer, Vest says so. It shows you the page, or it tells you the documents do not say.
Is our data used to train AI models?
No. Your documents are never used to train any model.
We already use Procore or Autodesk Construction Cloud. Why add Vest?
Keep them. Vest works alongside them. The assistants in those tools only see what is inside that tool. Vest reads your drawings, specs, RFIs and submittals together, and opens the page each answer came from.
How long does setup take?
It depends on how many files you have. We run the document processing for you, so your team just signs in and starts asking questions.
What does the field need to learn?
Very little. You type a question the way you would type a text, and tap a source number to see the page it came from.
Can we use this on U.S. government, federal or military projects?
Not yet. Documents from government and military projects carry legal requirements we have not built the protections for, so they stay out of Vest for now. We scope that work with pilot partners who need it. If that's your work, tell us on the pilot form and we'll tell you what it would take.
We're on the design side, not a GC. Is Vest for us?
Vest is built for contractors first, but it answers the same way for anyone working from a set of drawings and specs. If that's you, write to hello@vest.build.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Vest runs in your phone's browser, and tapping a source opens the page right there, zoomed to the spot. Try the field demo.
See Vest on your own projects.
We work with a small number of general contractors at a time. We gather and organize your files, set up your projects, and work directly with your team from day one.

Tavana grew up working construction and joined the laborers' union to pay for school. He earned his Computer Engineering degree from BYU, joined Apple, and left to launch his own AI startup. Since then he has led and built software and AI for several companies. He is building Vest for the people he grew up working with.
A vest is a piece of gear you'll find on every jobsite. You put it on to do the work, every day. And to vest someone is to trust them with something that matters. That is what we're building: the tool your team puts on every working day, trusted with what your company knows.
